African American Film Series: Free State of Jones
The library and the University of Louisville Health Sciences Center Office of Diversity and Inclusion present a screening of The Free State of Jones (R), the true story of a multiracial, armed revolt against the Confederacy during the Civil War in Jones County, Mississippi. The story continues during the reconstruction period and a landmark 1948 ruling on Mississippi’s law criminalizing interracial marriage. The film will be followed by a panel discussion with UofL faculty, representatives of community organizations, and members of the public about the issues raised in the film. The screening is free and open to the public.
